Mario Bellini is an Italian architect and designer known for his sleek and sophisticated couches, sofas, and dining chairs. Motivated by style as well as functionality, the artist’s creations solve everyday problems one may encounter in the home. He is commonly associated with his Camaleonda modular sofa, a set of square seats that can be separated and rearranged.Born on February 1, 1935 in Milan, Italy, he attended the Polytechnic University of Milan and earned a PhD in architecture in 1959. After completing his education, Bellini was hired as a consultant to Italian electronics company Olivetti, where he remodelled the typewriter, giving it a wedge-like body and a rubber-skin keyboard. The artist also became well known for his furniture designs at this time, designing his trademark office chairs—Figura, Persona, Imago, and Forma. Since the 1980s, he mostly worked on architectural projects, designing the the Sheik Zayed Museum in 2007 and the London Link Bridge at Deustche Bank in 2010. Today, Bellini lives and works in Milan, Italy. His work is currently held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Cooper Hewitt Smithson7,715.00Design in New York, among others.

Hans Jorgensen Wegner, (April 2, 1914 - January 26, 2007), was a world renowned Danish furniture designer. His high quality and thoughtful work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers, contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality. This school of thought arose primarily in Scandinavian countries with contributions by Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognizable design icons.
Wegner worked for some time for Arne Jacobsen, a successful Danish designer. Wegner was in charge of the furniture in the Aarhus Municipal Hall, which Jacobsen designed. After some years under Jacobsen, Wegner started his own company. Along with fellow architect Borge Mogensen, he designed furniture for FDB (a Danish chain of grocery stores), spearheaded by Erik Kold - who founded an organization of Danish furniture makers that launched Danish design abroad.
In his later years Wegner became more attached to PP Mobler (which produces many of pieces originally designed for Johannes Hansen) and for whom he designed several chairs late in his life. He remained active throughout his life. An example of his later work is the"Hoop Chair", originally designed in 1965 with a steel tube base and finally put into production made entirely in wood in 1985 (for PP Mbler). Wegner retired from public life only in the last decade of his life.

Le Corbusier was born as Charles-douard Jeanneret-Gris (1887-1914) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small city in Neuchtel canton in north-western Switzerland, in the Jura mountains, just 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) across the border from France.
He began experimenting with furniture design in 1928 after inviting the architect, Charlotte Perriand, to join his studio. His cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, also collaborated on many of the designs. Before the arrival of Perriand, Le Corbusier relied on ready-made furniture to furnish his projects, such as the simple pieces manufactured by Thonet, the company that manufactured his designs in the 1930s.
In 1928, Le Corbusier and Perriand began to put the expectations for furniture Le Corbusier outlined in his 1925 book L"Art Dcoratif d"aujourd"hui into practice. In the book he defined three different furniture types: type-needs, type-furniture, and human-limb objects. He defined human-limb objects as:"Extensions of our limbs and adapted to human functions that are type-needs and type-functions, therefore type-objects and type-furniture. The human-limb object is a docile servant. A good servant is discreet and self-effacing in order to leave his master free. Certainly, works of art are tools, beautiful tools. And long live the good taste manifested by choice, subtlety, proportion, and harmony".
The first results of the collaboration were three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs designed for two of his projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. The line of furniture was expanded for Le Corbusier"s 1929 Salon d"Automne installation,"Equipment for the Home".

Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The collection was the result of an exploration of how furniture is constructed, and then a desire to distill the process down to the barest bones. Likening the process of furniture construction to the way the human body is constructed, the frame, belts, and cushions became the bones, muscles, and skin of each piece.

Spanish by birth, and Italian by choice, Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain and studied architecture in Madrid before graduating from the Milan Politecnico in 1989. The key words for her work are: rigour and emotion, innovation and mental comfort. She was mentored by some of the masters of Italian industrial design: Achille Castiglioni oversaw her graduate thesis, and Vico Magistretti, with whom she designed her first projects. She learned her craft in Italy, and opened a studio in Milan in 2001, where she has developed a truly global enterprise. Some highlights from her career include her encounter with Maddalena de Padova (1990), her collaboration with Piero Lissoni (1996-2000), and her partnership with Patrizia Moroso (since 1998) which led to the design of the Step Sofa, eventually debuting at the Saloni Milano and launching her into the spotlight at the young age of 40. Amidst all of these accomplishments, she had a stint at Lissoni Associati, beginning in 1993, where she developed furniture for Italian giants Cappellini and Cassina. Her designs are unconventional, emphatic, and experimental, blending humanist sensibilities and technical expertise" qualities that also inform her work as an architect. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona is one of her many architectural projects.

The Egg chair was designed in 1958 by architect and designer Arne Jacobsen.
It was created specifically for the Radisson SAS hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is believed that the Egg Chair was inspired at the time by Eero Saarinen's "Womb Chair". The unique shape of the Egg Chair provides a level of privacy with its"winged design." The Egg Chair originated from Jacobsen's garage, and was originally cast in plaster. Today, the chair has an adjustable tilt feature and is formed with fiberglass, with high-density polyurethane foam padding around the entire chair structure.
