Inspired by Danish hygge, designer Simon Legald has created the Hyg furniture series. When the series was introduced in 2018, it consisted of a 2-seater sofa, lounge chairs and a footstool. In 2020, the range expands with a chair and barstool that share the characteristics of the lounge series: the hearty, organic curves designed with a focus on sublime comfort. The concept of hygge is all about feeling good – security, warmth and comfort all form part of its DNA, and it is precisely these qualities that provide the template for the Hyg collection. Hans J rgensen Wegner, (April 2, 1914" January 26, 2007), was a world renowned Danish furniture designer. His high quality and thoughtful work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers,1 contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality. This school of thought arose primarily in Scandinavian countries with contributions by Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognizable design icons.
Wegner worked for some time for Arne Jacobsen, a successful Danish designer. Wegner was in charge of the furniture in the Aarhus Municipal Hall, which Jacobsen designed.3 After some years under Jacobsen, Wegner started his own company. Along with fellow architect B rge Mogensen, he designed furniture for FDB (a Danish chain of grocery stores), spearheaded by Erik Kold" who founded an organization of Danish furniture makers that launched Danish design abroad.
In his later years Wegner became more attached to PP M bler (which produces many of pieces originally designed for Johannes Hansen) and for whom he designed several chairs late in his life. He remained active throughout his life. An example of his later work is the"Hoop Chair", originally designed in 1965 with a steel tube base and finally put into production made entirely in wood in 1985 (for PP M bler). Wegner retired from public life only in the last decade of his life.

In an ongoing attempt to unite the sublime with the absolutely necessary, Poul Kjaerholm designed the PK80 Daybed. The result is one of Kjaerholm's most sophisticated and iconic designs with a striking beauty. The daybed is a clear illustration of Poul Kjaerholm's method of refining historical models and distilling them down to the essence and demonstrating his superior ability to balance construction and choice of materials. The inspiration for the daybed came from Bauhaus, which in turn, were inspired by ancient Roman couches. The purchase of the PK80 for the galleries of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 2004, recognizes the daybed's natural place in furniture history.

Kjrholm was determined to reduce the chair to a single piece of each material, resulting in the overarching hallmark of the chair: The continuous and rather complex steel frame that is bent in a single piece without joints and connections. There is a braided rope wrapped around the frame for a tight but flexible seat and backrest, which has been turned for relaxation. This unique and stylish chair is complementary to any modern interior and is beautiful on its own, or in a group of numerous PK25 lounge chairs
