His goal was to produce quality inexpensive furniture that was made from materials that were readily available in Finland. The rustic simplicity and smaller structure made the Pirkka Collection very popular for use in the smaller homes in the post war era of the 1950s. The Pirkka Collection is made of solid wood with simple, clean lines which make for stylish functionality. The wood is joined together using no screws making it remarkably lightweight. The rustic table is carries with it the aesthetic appeal of modern design even 50 years later.
The table is available in a variety of lengths making it ideal for several different locations. The bench can be paired with the table or used as a stand lone piece. The wider than usual width makes it a comfortable seat. The side chair also pairs well with the table but can stand on its own and the stool completes the set and is available in 4 heights to make it even more versatile. Eero Saarinen style Womb Chair & Ottoman, designed in 1946. Named for the way it hugs the body, our Eero Saarinen style Womb Chair is a design icon. From its soft, inviting curves to its comfortable cushioning and tubular steel legs, every detail has been meticulously replicated. The chair is constructed from a fiberglass shell covered with foam and then encased in either soft fabric or leather. The legs are made from shiny stainless steel. The chair comes in a wide choice of colours to suit every taste. The Eero Saarinen Womb Chair was made to curl up in, so position it in a place where you can truly relax.

Eero Saarinen, the son of influential Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and his second wife, Louise, was born on his father's 37th birthday, August 20, 1910. They emigrated to the United States of America in 1923, when Eero was thirteen. He grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where his father was a teacher at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and he took courses in sculpture and furniture design there.
Beginning in September 1929, he studied sculpture at the Acadmie de la Grande Chaumire in Paris, France. He then went on to study at the Yale School of Architecture, completing his studies in 1934. Subsequently, he toured Europe and North Africa for a year and returned for a year to his native Finland, after which he returned to Cranbrook to work for his father and teach at the academy. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1940. Saarinen was recruited by Donal McLaughlin, an architectural school friend from his Yale days, to join the military service in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Saarinen was assigned to draw illustrations for bomb disassembly manuals and to provide designs for the Situation Room in the White House. Saarinen worked full-time for the OSS until 1944. After his fathe r's death in 1950, Saarinen founded his own architect" s office,"Eero Saarinen and Associates". Eero Saarinen died of a brain tumor in 1961 at the age of 51.
