Process: I use watercolor applied over objects creating stencils. I print objects using applied ink. I rag paint with acrylics. I apply mineral metallic pigments. I further paintwith acrylics tounify the composition. I varnish front and back.
Narrative: The soft butterflies contrast with the dark metallic grids. Metal screens and a rusty numbered metal plate historically reference my paternal grandfather, blacksmith then car mechanic, his son, my uncle a car mechanic, and to my father, car mechanic then WWII airplane mechanic. The metallic-mineral pigments are used to illustrate that no matter whathappens to us, no matter what hardships, represented by aging mental, we each must endure to survive, that there is something bright as glistening metal, resilient, we are pure colorful sparks of light which are untouched.
Abstract Kachina dancers remind us that life is a group dance. The butterflies that memories are passed down from generationto generation.
"Untouched" is a tribute to my paternal line. "Butterfly Plaid" is a tribute to my maternal line.
