"This piece was an attempt to use heated and liquid polymers (similar to encaustic or resin) and blended/unblended the pigment in a manner that represents how a molecular channel blocker (such as a calcium-channel blocker) would look on the surface of a chiral molecular hole within a cell, or even on a ion-gated section of a cell; as it is beginning to bind and infiltrate the cell membrane. I wanted to couple 2 polymer-type techniques to create this artwork, in a similar manner that a biochemist would incorporate 2 separate techniques together, to create a final result. The techniques were heated polymers with added raw, pigment powder (so they would bind, much like our cell membranes would bind) and incorporate regular polymers commonly used as pigment binders."
