This chair was designed by Le Corbusier (LC) in 1928, and is also commonly referred to as the Basculant Chair because the back section of the chair swivels to provide added comfort. The solid one-piece frame is made of tubular steel with polished chrome plating, and the leather is thick saddle leather with a smooth finish. This is a low-sitting chair with a compact foot print.

He was born as Charles-douard Jeanneret-Gris (1887-1914) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small city in Neuchtel canton in north-western Switzerland, in the Jura mountains, just 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) across the border from France.
Le Corbusier began experimenting with furniture design in 1928 after inviting the architect, Charlotte Perriand, to join his studio. His cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, also collaborated on many of the designs. Before the arrival of Perriand, Le Corbusier relied on ready-made furniture to furnish his projects, such as the simple pieces manufactured by Thonet, the company that manufactured his designs in the 1930s.
In 1928, Le Corbusier and Perriand began to put the expectations for furniture Le Corbusier outlined in his 1925 book L'Art Dcoratif d'aujourd'hui into practice. In the book he defined three different furniture types: type-needs, type-furniture, and human-limb objects. He defined human-limb objects as:"Extensions of our limbs and adapted to human functions that are type-needs and type-functions, therefore type-objects and type-furniture. The human-limb object is a docile servant. A good servant is discreet and self-effacing in order to leave his master free. Certainly, works of art are tools, beautiful tools. And long live the good taste manifested by choice, subtlety, proportion, and harmony".
The first results of the collaboration were three chrome-plated tubular steel chairs designed for two of his projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. The line of furniture was expanded for Le Corbusier's 1929 Salon d'Automne installation,"Equipment for the Home".

Borge Mogensen was born in Aalborg, Denmark. He started as a cabinetmaker in 1934, and studied furniture design at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen from 1936"38. From 1938-43 he worked at various design studios in Copenhagen, including with Kaare Klint. In 1959 he left FDB"s furniture design studio to found his own design studio. His work has been featured in one-man exhibitions in Zurich, London, New York, Stockholm, Paris and Copenhagen. His furniture, strongly representative of his training as a traditional craftsman, was greatly appreciated by a public who had not yet become interested in modernism and the changes its influence had created on furniture and the decorative arts. He designed a sofa in 1945 with leather ties which allowed the sides to be dropped down. A 1949 chair, claimed by critics to be"a model for future chairs," used a curved, slightly sloping backrest, cut out along the spine in an organic dewdrop shape. He designed a set of simple, sturdy and modest furniture for a seaside cottage in 1959, a very traditional oak table and chair set in 1960 and a set in pine to furnish a"husband"s study" in 1962.

In the 1930s, Eero Saarinen created a range of organically-shaped plywood chairs. These went on to win the MoMA-sponsored 1940 Organic Design in Home Furnishings competition. This work inspired Saarinen to design a chair that would provide exceptional comfort from its shell alone, and not just from the furnishing. His luxurious and sculptural Executive Side Chair and the matching Executive Armchair were the results. The design won the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award and the West Germany Federal Award for Industrial Design.

Eero Saarinen, the son of influential Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen and his second wife, Louise, was born on his father's 37th birthday, August 20, 1910. They emigrated to the United States of America in 1923, when Eero was thirteen.He grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where his father was a teacher at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and he took courses in sculpture and furniture design there. He became good friends with Florence Knoll.
Beginning in September 1929, he studied sculpture at the Acadmie de la Grande Chaumire in Paris, France. He then went on to study at the Yale School of Architecture, completing his studies in 1934. Subsequently, he toured Europe and North Africa for a year and returned for a year to his native Finland, after which he returned to Cranbrook to work for his father and teach at the academy. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1940. Saarinen was recruited by Donal McLaughlin, an architectural school friend from his Yale days, to join the military service in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Saarinen was assigned to draw illustrations for bomb disassembly manuals and to provide designs for the Situation Room in the White House. Saarinen worked full-time for the OSS until 1944. After his father"s death in 1950, Saarinen founded his own architect's office,"Eero Saarinen and Associates". Eero Saarinen died of a brain tumor in 1961 at the age of 51.

The goal was to create a chair with a cohesive and unified look as well as a natural integration between seat and base. Gamfratesi studio was founded in 2006 by danish architect Stine Gam and italian architect Enrico Fratesi. the studio is based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi?€?s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi aim to create furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony.

ARTLESS Allison Chair is the union of two independent yet interrelated systems; composed of a super comfortable seat on top of an incredibly sturdy base.

The armchair design was conceived to be low yet enveloping with the back at the perfect height to be comfortable while maintaining a continuous line with the armrest's profile. The back vents allow the armrests and back to have minimal movement thus augmenting comfort. The reversible memory foam cushion brings padded comfort to the dinner table- something usually associated with lounge chairs.

The Allison's base continues Artless' use of solid walnut, starting with a hand sanded followed by an oil rub, ending with a hand wax finish. This laborious and time-consuming approach guarantees years of beautiful looking wood with minimal maintenance. Our X base is one of our favorite designs with it's Platonic geometry and the added comfort of the swivel mechanism. It is ideally suited as a task chair.

Key is a highly modular storage system that ships flat and assembles easily - the only tool you need is a hammer. The parts are cleverly joined into an exceptionally strong structure by machined aluminum tenon keys. The wood is sustainably harvested, FSC certified maple or walnut plywood, finished with a zero VOC finish. Key is our effort to redefine what sustainable, green, modern furniture can be. Available with optional sliding powder-coated metal doors in a wide variety of colors. Key packaging is 100% paper-based and contains no plastic.
The inside of the unit is split in the middle with matching wood and there is a pass-through between the left side and the right-side as well as a hole out of the back. The basic medium Key module can be used at the bottom of a stack of short modules. Stacked Key modules lock together with steel pins so they can't be pushed apart (included). In addition, taller Key stacks can be secured to a wall stud with a galvanized steel anti-tip cable to prevent them from being accidentally knocked over. The full thickness back not only provides a very stiff structure, but also allows Key to be mounted directly to a wall. Stacked Key modules make a perfect modern storage solution for a living room or office.
