Spanish by birth, and Italian by choice, Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain and studied architecture in Madrid before graduating from the Milan Politecnico in 1989. The key words for her work are: rigour and emotion, innovation and mental comfort. She was mentored by some of the masters of Italian industrial design: Achille Castiglioni oversaw her graduate thesis, and Vico Magistretti, with whom she designed her first projects. She learned her craft in Italy, and opened a studio in Milan in 2001, where she has developed a truly global enterprise. Some highlights from her career include her encounter with Maddalena de Padova (1990), her collaboration with Piero Lissoni (1996-2000), and her partnership with Patrizia Moroso (since 1998) which led to the design of the Step Sofa, eventually debuting at the Saloni Milano and launching her into the spotlight at the young age of 40. Amidst all of these accomplishments, she had a stint at Lissoni Associati, beginning in 1993, where she developed furniture for Italian giants Cappellini and Cassina. Her designs are unconventional, emphatic, and experimental, blending humanist sensibilities and technical expertise" qualities that also inform her work as an architect. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona is one of her many architectural projects.

American architect and interior designer Warren Platner was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1919. Platner attended Cornell University, graduating with a degree in architecture in 1941. Shortly after, he began working with legendary architects Raymond Loewy and I.M. Pei from 1945 to 1950, and with Eero Saarinen from 1960 to 1965. During this time he was part of the design process of many historically important projects including the Dulles International Airport, in Washington, D.C., the Repertory Theater at Lincoln Center, and several dormitories for Yale University. Platner joined Kevin Roche"s firm as the head of interior design, becoming more involved with interior and industrial design, as he believed that the essence and character of a building"s design should come from within.
In 1967, having gained a wealth of expertise and knowledge from working for architect-design luminaries, Platner decided to open his own firm, Platner Associates. Not limiting itself to architecture, it also experimented in furniture design, lighting, textiles, and interiors. From the late 1960s onwards, he exhibited widely and worked on a variety of interior design and architecture projects, including the interior design of the Ford Foundation headquarters (1967) in New York, the Georg Jensen Design Center (1968) also in New York, the interior to the American Restaurant in Kansas (1974), the interiors for Water Tower Place (1976) in Chicago, and the Windows on the World Restaurant (1976) atop the World Trade Center in New York.
In the 1960s, as the modernist movement became more expressive, Platner focused on a quieter aesthetic, wishing to create more graceful structures. In 1966 Platner, in collaboration with Knoll , unveiled the Platner Collection"a series of sleek modern chairs, ottomans and tables that rest on an intricately sculpted base of cylindrical steel rods replicating a moir pattern. Requiring over 1,000 welds for one piece alone, the complex design is a close marriage of architecture and industrial design. Though Platner designed other pieces, the Platner Collection was his most renowned collection that ultimately made a name for himself in furniture design.

Simon Legald says: "It took a while to get the proportions and the interaction between the soft curves and straight lines on the shells just right. It was crucial that the upholstering and stitching were carried out with the utmost precision. I wanted to create individual chairs where each one had its own character. I did this through the variations of the high and low versions, and by the different frames available for the chair. For example, the wooden frames are flat and add warmth while the slimmer, round steel and chrome frames give a more industrial feel. Finally, the frame for the rocking chair is a slightly unexpected and playful choice for a lounge chair".

Hans Jorgensen Wegner, (April 2, 1914 - January 26, 2007), was a world renowned Danish furniture designer. His high quality and thoughtful work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers, contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality. This school of thought arose primarily in Scandinavian countries with contributions by Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognizable design icons.
Wegner worked for some time for Arne Jacobsen, a successful Danish designer. Wegner was in charge of the furniture in the Aarhus Municipal Hall, which Jacobsen designed. After some years under Jacobsen, Wegner started his own company. Along with fellow architect Borge Mogensen, he designed furniture for FDB (a Danish chain of grocery stores), spearheaded by Erik Kold - who founded an organization of Danish furniture makers that launched Danish design abroad.
In his later years Wegner became more attached to PP Mobler (which produces many of pieces originally designed for Johannes Hansen) and for whom he designed several chairs late in his life. He remained active throughout his life. An example of his later work is the"Hoop Chair", originally designed in 1965 with a steel tube base and finally put into production made entirely in wood in 1985 (for PP Mobler). Wegner retired from public life only in the last decade of his life.

Stefan Borselius
Stefan Broselius was born in 1974 in Malm. After finishing a three year apprentice as a cabinet maker, he started studying furniture design for two years at Stenebyskolan and than, Broselius worked as a restorer. In 2002, he received his Masters Degree of Fine Art at the School of Arts, Craft and Design in Stockholm; shortly after that, he joined the Design-ensemble of the Swedish manufacturer Bl Station. There, Stefan Broselius is seen as a thinker and listener who firstly takes advantages and disadvantages into consideration and then chooses his words as carefully as the expression of his design.
Together with Fredrik Mattson, Broselius created for Bl Station very successful design furniture, like the lounge arm chair Snooze, the table series Level and the stackable chair Sting which was awarded with the Red Dot Design Award and in addition it received five other design awards.
However, Stefan Broselius convinces due to his talent not also as a team member. When creating the extraordinary arm chair Peekaboo for Bl Station, it became obvious that Broselius also has his own design style. His creations can be interpreted as the attempt to harmonize the incompatible contradiction of tradition and modernity. Broselius himself says about his work:"I want to find new forms and new functions for traditional furniture and new furniture for traditional people in a new age.

Gallagher Lounge Chair - Black

Hans Brattrud designed the Scandia range in 1957 as a school project. At that time, however, he was not able to manufacture the chairs properly.
In 1958, Brattrud saw laminated wooden products for the first time on a fair in Germany and understood that this was the right method for industrializing his Scandia design. High voltage laminating was in it's infancy, but he convinced a factory in Norway, Hove Møbler, to buy equipment for wood laminating. They then began manufacturing the Scandia range in 1961.
They were manufactured in Norway and distributed all over the world until the early 1970`s.
Today they are sold at auctions and vintage shops all over the world and have become a true Scandinavian classic.
Hans had his own design office in Oslo from 1958 until 1963 and developed many national and international projects. Working on one of these projects made him interested in prefabricating houses. After this, his primary focus was to develop designs for prefabricating houses and other architectural patents. Today the Scandia chair is manufactured exclusively by the Norwegian company, Fjordfiesta, with approval of Hans Brattrud.

Hans Wegner's PP550 "Peacock Chair" in teak was designed originally in 1947. When Finn Juhl first saw this chair he immediately noticed its characteristic back and named it The Peacock Chair - a name which stuck with the chair. The frame is crafted in solid ash and a seat with a new braided rush cord. Our skilled craftsmen professionally refinished the chair while maintaining the core of Wegner’s original design and would make the ideal focal point for any modern interior.

Hans Jrgensen Wegner, (April 2, 1914 - January 26, 2007), was a world renowned Danish furniture designer. His high quality and thoughtful work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers, contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality. This school of thought arose primarily in Scandinavian countries with contributions by Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognizable design icons.  Wegner worked for some time for Arne Jacobsen, a successful Danish designer. Wegner was in charge of the furniture in the Aarhus Municipal Hall, which Jacobsen designed. After some years under Jacobsen, Wegner started his own company. Along with fellow architect Brge Mogensen, he designed furniture for FDB (a Danish chain of grocery stores), spearheaded by Erik Kold - who founded an organization of Danish furniture makers that launched Danish design abroad.  In his later years Wegner became more attached to PP Mbler (which produces many of pieces originally designed for Johannes Hansen) and for whom he designed several chairs late in his life. He remained active throughout his life. An example of his later work is the -Hoop Chair-, originally designed in 1965 with a steel tube base and finally put into production made entirely in wood in 1985 (for PP Mbler). Wegner retired from public life only in the last decade of his life.
